What does FSW mean in CAREER

The Federation of Social Workers (FSW) is a professional organization dedicated to promoting and supporting social work practice, education, and research. It includes members who engage in traditional direct service roles as well as those committed to social change. FSW also serves as an advocacy voice for social work issues in the public policy arena.

All certified or licensed social workers are eligible to join the Federation of Social Workers. We also offer associate membership for professionals from other related disciplines such as counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, marriage and family therapists, and others who support the advancement of the profession.

Joining FSW provides numerous benefits including access to professional development opportunities; discounts on continuing education and publications; peer-to-peer networking; membership in affiliated associations; legislative updates and advocacy tools; and more. By being part of a strong collective voice for social change, our members help shape public policy while advancing their own career goals.

To become an accredited member, you must complete an application process which includes providing proof of licensure or certification and submitting references from other social workers who are already accredited with the FSW. Once approved, these members receive all the benefits that come with being an official member such as receiving discounts on training courses and publications, networking opportunities with other accredited members, access to events such as conferences and workshops hosted by FSW, etc.

The amount of time it takes for your application to be approved may vary depending on how many applications we’re processing at any given time but typically takes between 4-6 weeks to complete the process. After your application has been reviewed by our Membership Committee you will receive either an approval notification or additional instructions if more information is needed.

Being a member requires no ongoing obligations or commitments but active involvement in FSW supported activities is encouraged and appreciated! Examples include attending meetings or events sponsored by FSW or advocating issues important to social work through involvement in committees or task forces sponsored by FSW.

Professionals within the field of social work have access to varied opportunities though FSW including training courses on specific topics related directly to their practice areas such as clinical supervision or trauma-informed practice; state licensing preparation exams; webinars featuring experts within particular working fields focused on developing problem solving strategies across different settings; mentorship programs aimed at aiding each individual’s career goals; access to affordable continuing education credits (CEUs) needed for license renewal; etc.

Networking within our membership consists mainly around areas concerned with advancing profession objectives such sharing best practices among peers, addressing administrative issues affecting several positions/programs throughout local governments/organizations—such as increasing job satisfaction among staff engaged in direct client care—and building collaborative approaches toward achieving goals set forth jointly among organizations/institutions involved with addressing similar concerns.

The most effective way would be joining one (or more) committees where discussions about particular laws/regulations have been established under FSW auspices so that input about proposed changes affecting individuals within certain fields can be brought forward prior to them being passed into law.
