What does FMST mean in UNCLASSIFIED

Friends of the Mountains to Sea Trail (FMST) is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring people to care, explore, and enjoy this amazing trail in North Carolina. Through education, advocacy and volunteerism, FMST works to protect public access and resources across the state for all to enjoy.

FMST supports the mission of creating visibility, awareness and funding for the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. We work with other organizations in raising funds for land conservation & acquisition, trail building, maintenance & protection. In addition, we support our community through an active presence on social media platforms which can help promote North Carolina's outdoor recreation opportunities.

The Mountains-to-Sea Trail runs along 1125 miles throughout North Carolina starting in Clingmans Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and finishing at Jockey's Ridge State Park on the Outer Banks. The trail offers hikers unique landscapes allowing them to traverse over five different regions including mountains, Piedmont plateau and coastlines.

It typically takes about three months for someone with extensive backpacking experience including knowledge in navigation routes and terrain recognition. For those less experienced but equally adventurous - it can take four months up to a year depending on weather conditions and physical stamina required during their hike.

There are several restrictions along the MST; hikers should be fully aware of all potential risks associated with an overnight trekking experience prior to engaging on any portion of the trail system. This includes rules related to firewood collection or campfires as well as wildlife observation or animal interactions guidelines which should be strictly observed as these rules ensure safety both for adventurers but also for wildlife living nearby reserves or parks associated with the MST path itself.

Pets are welcome when hiking certain sections of trails managed by FMST however there are some areas along these trails which require pet owners not bring any animals due specific regulations imposed by either local or federal law enforcement agencies across NC

Yes! However campers must fully respect existing laws regarding nature preservation - such as disposing garbage responsibly & leaving trails as they found them upon arrival - in addition there may also be designated campsites located across certain points along MTS path where tents/hammocks may been established accordingly.
