What does FHM mean in MEDICAL

Hospital medicine is an area of medical practice focused on addressing the needs of hospitalized patients. It involves taking a comprehensive approach to patient care that includes providing acute care and coordinating with other healthcare professionals to ensure patients receive appropriate care.

To become a Fellow in Hospital Medicine, you must be a board certified physician who has completed an accredited residency program in internal medicine or Pediatrics and have at least two years of full-time clinical experience with direct patient responsibility. In addition, you must have demonstrated expertise, teaching, research and/or quality improvement within your specialty.

To pursue FHM certification, you must complete formal training such as coursework and experiential learning as recognized by the American Board of Physician Specialties (ABPS). This typically consists of programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Additionally, some programs may require additional fellowship training or specific research projects or presentations.

Generally speaking, it takes 2-3 years to complete all requirements necessary for FHM certification depending on individual circumstances such as current level of expertise, workload demands and required course materials needed. Furthermore, after completing all requirements one has up to six months to submit their application before it expires.
