What does FCCLA mean in CAREER

FCCLA stands for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America and is a career and technical student organization that provides students with opportunities to participate in valuable leadership experiences. Members can develop skills they need for their future, explore career pathways, engage in community service activities and connect with professionals in the workplace.

FCCLA was founded in 1945 by a group of students attending the National FHA Conference at the University of Georgia. It was formerly known as Future Homemakers of America until 1997 when it changed its name to Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

Any student who is enrolled in a career and technical education (CTE) program or courses related to family and consumer sciences may join FCCLA.

Joining is easy! Simply contact your local school’s chapter advisor or visit the website www.fcclainc.org for more information about joining your local chapter. You will need to complete a membership application form with your advisor which will then be submitted to your local state association for processing.

There are many benefits that come from being part of the FCCLA organization! As members, you can gain access to leadership opportunities such as sitting on committees or leading projects; develop vital professional skills such as communication, problem-solving, decision-making and time management; network with fellow members and industry professionals; conduct community service initiatives; receive scholarships through competitive events; create life-changing memories with friends; and so much more!

There are numerous ways that members can get involved within their local chapters or on the national level. The organization offers dozens of competitions ranging from speaking events to STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) where teams or individuals create projects around the theme “Leading Change” which highlight issues impacting their communities. Members also have the opportunity to attend conferences at both the local/state levels and represent their state at national conferences held yearly in varying locations throughout United States. They’ll gain key experience by helping run business meetings while engaging in various networking opportunities available throughout these conferences.

Yes! Every year outstanding members are recognized for their hard work within their respective states by receiving awards given out during annual conferences, workshops or other special programs sponsored by state associations agency representatives or corporate partners. These awards recognize individual achievement as well as group accomplishments among all levels – middle school/junior high, high school/postsecondary along with advisors.

The organization offers several different programs designed specifically for our members across all levels – middle school/junior high, high school/postsecondary along with advisors. These include Power Of One (for personal growth), Leadership Development Program (for increasing knowledge related to our six Student Leadership roles), FACES Magazine (a quarterly magazine featuring real stories written by real teens regarding today’s top topics), Project Rally—Family Strengthening Initiative (improving communication between youth & adults), Building A Legacy For Life™ Program (skills needed for success). Additionally we offer various Family Programs Promotions which support community activities such as maintaining healthy finances through financial literacy courses.

Participation fees vary from state-to-state depending on each association's budget but generally range from $10-$15 per entry fee plus any additional travel costs associated if traveling outside your respective state boundaries.
