Football Club de Bourg Péronnas was founded in 1920 by youngsters from Bourg-en-Bresse who wanted to form their own team. The club joined the Compétition Interne de la FFF (CIFF) in 1923, but it did not become competitive until 1933 when it earned promotion to Division d'Honneur du Centre. From there, they moved up through the divisions until finally earning promotion to Ligue 2 in 1964 following a second place finish in Division Nationale B (now Championnat National). They spent two seasons there before being relegated back to Division Nationale B, however they earned another promotion back to Ligue 2 in 1975. Finally in 1990 FCBP earned promotion on to the first division of French football however they were relegated back down after only one season and have been bouncing between third and fourth tier since then.
