What does AGG mean in GYMNASTICS

Aesthetic Group Gymnastics, also referred to as AGG, is a sport that combines rhythmic gymnastics with ballet, modern and jazz dance. It requires strength, flexibility, grace and beauty from the athletes. AGG differs from traditional gymnastics in that it focuses more on the technical elements of dance such as figures, footwork and body control rather than on executing difficult skills or rotations on apparatus.

Anyone who meets the criteria by their respective governing body can partake in AGG competitions. Generally this includes athletes of all ages who demonstrate skill and commitment. The sport is open to both men and women alike.

AGG consists of five events which include Figures (Small), Figures (Large), Team Routine, Quartet Routine and Longitudinal Rope. The figures competition incorporates the dance hall onto a chess board where symbols indicate specific moves required from each athlete during their choreographed routine with music accompaniment. The Team, Quartet and Rope routines involve groups of up to 6 athletes performing together as one unit across the floor while using various props such as ribbons and hoops among others for added difficulty.

An event can take anywhere from 10 minutes to over 45 minutes depending how many teams/groups are participating. Each team or individual will be given a maximum time limit of 3-4 minutes to perform their routine before moving onto the next one.

Music for each team’s routine should not exceed 4 minutes in length and must be appropriate for all audiences of any age group attending or viewing the event. This may include classical music, instrumental medleys or original compositions designed specifically for each team's performance. No lyrics are permitted during any stage of competition.

Yes - All athletes are required to abide by general safety guidelines when competing at any level of competition including warm up exercises before beginning their routine as well as appropriate attire worn at all times including no loose clothing when performing with props like ribbons or hoop apparatus.

Yes - There are various international organizations such as FIG (Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique) that have competitive programs where athletes can showcase their talents and get ranked against other nations across different levels from beginner to elite status.

Judges consist of highly experienced professionals within the field who have knowledge both technically as well as artistically at evaluating various elements that make up an overall performance such as dynamic quality, use of props, artistic expression and execution of choreography among others.

Scores in this sport are generally determined by a combination total points earned by each individual athlete or entire team's performance throughout a designated round or event along with bonus points they may receive for elements like costumes used within their presentation.
