What does ENWA mean in EUROPEAN

European Night Without Accident (ENWA) is a pan-European initiative that was launched in 2004 with the aim of improving road safety and preventing life-threatening injury. It aims to promote road safety awareness and provide information about safety measures for travellers across Europe.

ENWA's primary goal is to reduce the number of road fatalities and to prevent serious injuries related to poor driving conditions. Additionally, ENWA works to increase public awareness regarding proper road safety practices, encourages responsible driving behaviour, and promotes improved infrastructure that helps ensure the wellbeing of everyone using roads throughout Europe.

ENWA has several activities dedicated to raising public awareness such as setting up information campaigns both online and offline, educational programs for school children covering topics like proper use of seat belts or phone usage while driving, as well as launching a yearly night without accident campaign during which different events are organized throughout Europe reminding people about safe driving practices.

ENWA is managed by its partners — governments, businesses, schools and NGOs from all EU countries - who finance its activities. These partners also commit their resources to support implementation of ENWA's goals as required by their respective national legislation.

In addition to raising public awareness related to road accident prevention, ENWA also provides professional advice on implementing strategies that will result in higher levels of compliance with existing laws and regulations among drivers in Europe.
