What does ENF mean in NURSING

The Executive Nurse Fellows (ENF) Program is a national leadership development program that provides select nurses with the opportunity to be immersed in the same type of executive decision-making activities experienced by top healthcare organization leaders. The ENF program is designed to prepare nurse leaders for roles in setting health care policy, collaborating with other disciplines, and leading organizational change initiatives.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) serves as the administrator for the ENF program. AACN works collaboratively with health care organizations across the country to develop top-notch fellows who are prepared for senior leadership positions in nursing and healthcare.

Prospective candidates must have a minimum of three years experience as a nurse leader and have earned an advanced degree from an accredited nursing school or hold a current doctoral degree in nursing or related field. Applicants should also demonstrate interest and commitment to continued learning and personal development. Finally, applicants must provide proof of active licensure as a RN and/or APRN if applicable.

The ENF Program is approximately one year in duration. During this time, Fellows accompany their host organizations onsite visits throughout their career journey, participate in webinars and virtual learning opportunities, engage with key stakeholders both inside and outside their organization, travel domestically for various meetings/conferences related to their fellowship projects, and compose comprehensive deliverables outlining recommendations related to their projects at their host sites.

The ENF Experience includes four core components that span over 16 months; Pre-Program Education Week, Onsite Immersion Experiences, Professional Development Opportunities & Support Services, and Post-Program Reflection & Impact Assessment Activities. Through this immersive experience Fellows gain access to knowledge they can use towards achieving advanced practice competencies at higher levels than traditional education alone can offer them during their fellowship year while developing as professional nurse executives.

Yes; participants are responsible for any costs associated with travel related expenses including but not limited to airfare (domestic only), ground transportation (to/from airport & site visits), hotel accommodations (if needed), meals, parking fees etc., during all onsite immersion experiences throughout Fellowship Year 1 (FY1). Additionally participants will incur out-of pocket expenses associated with educational programming such as books or technology needs required for completion of each component throughout FY1 plus Reports 1 & 2 submission fees upon completion of Fellowship Year 2 (FY2). It should be noted that AACN will attempt to cover all approved travel related expenses prior to departure if possible.
