What does AFLR mean in METEOROLOGY

Advancing Front Local Reconnection (AFLR) is a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method commonly used to model fluid flow in complex systems. It is a mesh generation technique that enables the efficient, accurate, and robust construction of quality grids for CFD simulations.

AFLR employs an advancing front methodology which works by constructing meshes from linked triangles, starting from an initial seed layer and incrementally constructing subsequent layers until the desired mesh resolution is achieved. Each triangle advances with respect to its neighboring elements according to predetermined criteria.

AFLR has been applied in various fields such as aerospace engineering, aerodynamics, biomechanics, and combustion studies. In addition to CFD simulations, AFLR can also be used for geometric modeling purposes such as stress analysis and finite element analysis.
