Who We Are
Formed just after the New Deal in 1932, AFGE is the first union created solely for civil service workers in the United States. Since then, we have grown to over 650,000 members from across 12 departments of government. We are dedicated to protecting and expanding collective bargaining rights for federal workers as well as giving voice to those not yet organized so they can join us in fighting for better working conditions and wages. Our mission is also to make sure that no matter what party occupies the White House or which party controls Congress, federal employees remain protected by law under Title 5 of the US Code which outlines their rights as civil servants.
What We Do
At AFGE, we work tirelessly on behalf of our members to make sure that they have secure jobs with competitive pay, stable pensions and benefits packages along with safe workplaces free from discrimination or harassment. In addition to collective bargaining agreements and advocating on behalf of our members through legislation or court cases if necessary, we also provide education opportunities such as safety courses or webinars about workplace issues like veterans' preferences in hiring or how to file a grievance if needed so that federal employees can stay up-to-date on policy changes affecting them at work.
Final Words:
AFGE remains committed to representing those who serve their country everyday by working in public service positions within the government—the people who do what's best for our country regardless of political affiliations or dangers posed by certain career paths such as those within law enforcement or national security fields. It is through labor unions like ours that these brave men and women know that there is someone always fighting for fair treatment and equal representation no matter what branch of service they choose as their career path!
