What does EEE mean in PHYSIOLOGY

Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) is an infection caused by a virus that is spread by infected mosquitoes.

Symptoms of EEE include fever, headache, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, joint pain, confusion, seizures and paralysis. In some cases, these symptoms may be severe and even lead to death.

Anyone who spends time outdoors can become infected with the virus if they are bitten by an infected mosquito. However, certain groups such as young children, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems are more likely to contract it and experience worse symptoms.

There is currently no cure for Eastern Equine Encephalitis but treatment with supportive care can help reduce the severity of symptoms. It's also important to stay up-to-date on vaccines in order to prevent illness from the virus.

Taking steps to prevent mosquito bites can help reduce your risk of getting infected with the virus. These steps include wearing long sleeves when outdoors; using insect repellent containing DEET; repairing screens on windows and doors; avoiding being outside during dawn or dusk when mosquitoes are most active; eliminating areas of standing water around your home; and keeping grassy areas mowed short around your home or work area.
