What does AFDP mean in MILITARY

The AFDP serves as a framework for guidance relating to all aspects of Army force development, from setting strategic direction for the development and employment of innovative concepts and capabilities to training and equipping soldiers with the necessary equipment, skills and expertise to accomplish their missions.

The AFDP includes plans for developing future capability requirements, optimizing existing capability requirements, developing joint operational concepts, assessing readiness requirements, managing risk-based decision making processes, conducting major acquisition programs and sustainment activities. The plan also includes an analysis of core competencies required by all personnel assigned to any given unit or task.

The AFDP is developed by senior leaders within the Department of Defense in collaboration with key stakeholders such as government organizations, operational commands, industry partners and academic institutions. This process involves extensive coordination between multiple organizations in order to complete each stage of planning.

The AFDP is reviewed and updated on an annual basis based on changes in strategy or policies or new technological advancements that may affect future operations. In addition, reviews are conducted when significant changes are observed in the operating environment or threats.

By providing guidance on how best to use available resources for achieving military objectives, the AFDP enables commanders with improved situational awareness on potential risks associated with particular strategies. Improved understanding provides commanders better decision making opportunities by focusing resources on areas where they will be most effective at providing a decisive advantage against potential adversaries while protecting our forces from harm's way when necessary.
