What is ECW?

Eastern Championship Wrestling (ECW) was a professional wrestling promotion founded by Tod Gordon in 1992. Based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, ECW showcased some of the most extreme styles of wrestling ever seen before in American promotions. This included weapons matches, hardcore matches, barbed wire matches and other unique stipulations designed to force wrestlers to put on displays of intense violence and danger for audiences around the country. The popularity of these matches eventually lead to ECW becoming one of the most popular independent promotions in North America during its heyday in the late 90s.
