What does AEW mean in ACADEMIC & SCIENCE

Academic Early Warning (AEW) is an alert system that provides an educational institution with early indications of a student's likelihood of struggling academically and provides strategies for intervention.

The AEW system works by collecting data on students such as grades, attendance, discipline referrals, and test scores, then analyzing this data to produce an alert if it identifies any potential academic difficulties. This alert helps identify at-risk students in order to provide them with additional resources or support they may need in order to stay on track.

Schools typically give teachers access to the AEW system so they can be aware of any students who may be at risk for academic difficulty. Administrators can also view the data in order to better inform decisions regarding interventions or curriculum changes.

While the use of AEW can be beneficial in identifying at-risk students and allowing teachers and administrators to take proactive steps towards helping them succeed, some teachers have expressed concern about being overwhelmed by too many alerts or being uncertain about how to respond when alerted about a student's potentially low performance.
