What does AEDB mean in ENERGY

The Alternate Energy Development Board (AEDB) is an organization under the Government of Pakistan that is responsible for promoting, developing, and extending the use of alternative and renewable energy sources in the country. It creates policies that encourage investment in research and development in order to make alternative energy technologies more cost competitive with conventional sources of energy such as oil and natural gas. The ultimate objective of AEDB’s work is to generate jobs, reduce pollution, and increase energy independence by increasing the availability of renewable energy.

AEDB's main functions include formulating policies and implementing projects related to accelerating promotion of renewable energy in Pakistan, overseeing institutional arrangements for planning, researching, and facilitating the development and deployment of such energy technologies within a framework of meaningful public-private partnership. It also engages in design initiatives to provide for safe exploitation of resources; promote public private sector collaborative programmes; fund project studies to ensure success; attract investments into this sector; monitor implementation process & performance evaluation; resolving various issues akin to RE technology which impede its progress or threaten its integrity through policy/interventions etc.

AEDB supports projects that seek to promote the use of alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, biomass, hydropower, geothermal power, ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC), tidal amplification technology (TAT), hydrogen fuel cells technology (HFC), small hydroelectric plants (SHP), smart grids systems (SGS). These are some examples but not a comprehensive list. Projects can be both technical or non-technical. Non-technical projects could include education and awareness programs on renewable energy sources.
