What does AED mean in ECOLOGY

The Atlantic Ecology Division (AED) is a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It conducts scientific research related to the marine and coastal ecosystems within the U.S. Atlantic coast.

AED provides scientific analysis, data collection, evaluation, and interpretations related to the health of large ocean systems in order to understand how climate change, fisheries management practices, land development activities, pollution, etc., affect ecological processes in this region.

Some of AED's research areas include fish population dynamics, nutrient cycling, water quality parameters, species biodiversity, ocean acidification, shellfisheries management plans and mapping services for decision makers on land and sea use regulations.

AED works with multiple stakeholders including state/local governments agencies, environmental organizations/groups, academic institutions as well as other federal departments such as the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to provide sound information that can be used in decision making processes concerning marine resources management.
