What does AACT mean in TECHNOLOGY

Access Ability Communications Technology (AACT) is a term used to describe assistive technologies that enable communication and access for people with disabilities.

AACT includes resources, products, services and techniques aimed at providing an equal opportunity to individuals with physical, sensory or cognitive impairments in order to more efficiently communicate, operate computer hardware and software, access the Internet and other digital services.

AACT is designed to provide an equal opportunity for individuals with physical, sensory or cognitive impairments so they can more easily carry out communication related tasks.

People who are eligible may receive assistance from the government through applications such as Medicaid in order to purchase equipment that falls into the category of AACT. For those not eligible for financial aid there are multiple vendors which offer assistive technology products at affordable prices. Additionally, there are many non-profit organizations that provide grants for those who cannot afford to purchase assistive technology equipment or services out-of-pocket.

Government assistance programs like Medicaid provide subsidies for certain medical care items as well as assistive technologies which fall under the umbrella of AACT. The subsidy covers all or part of the cost of purchasing approved equipment depending on individual circumstances such as income level and diagnosis code among other things.
