What does ADPC mean in UNCLASSIFIED

The Asia Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) is an international non-profit organization devoted to building disaster resilience in the Asian region by building the capacity of government agencies, local organizations and communities. It facilitates regional learning, networking and collaboration by providing technical support for policy development, planning and implementation.

ADPC focuses on a wide range of critical disasters in the Asian region, including climate change impacts, major natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes and tsunamis, public health emergencies such as avian influenza, and more.

Yes! In addition to supporting disaster preparedness initiatives in Asia, ADPC also strives to promote regional knowledge sharing and best practices through research reports and publications. Its “Emergency Communication Network” provides key stakeholders with timely updates on emergency situations around the region. ADPC also organizes various regional workshops to create dialogue between governments and other relevant stakeholders.

ADPC delivers its activities through three main programmatic pillars which are Capacity Building; Research & Development; and Knowledge Sharing & Information Management. These programmes provide capacity building support for governments at all levels in areas like policy formulation; planning frameworks; early warning systems; emergency response systems; community level risk assessment methods; hazard mapping and vulnerability reduction measures. They also provide research & development support in terms of assessing current practices; exploring best practices from around the world; developing new tools or technologies; improving existing products or processes used for disaster management. Finally they offer knowledge sharing & information management services to facilitate better communication within the sector as well as engage with other stakeholders for collective action towards better disaster management efforts across different countries.

ADPC is supported by government donors including Australia, Japan, People's Republic of China (PRC), Switzerland (the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation - SDC) and Sweden (the Swedish International Development Agency - SIDA). Other sources of funding include non-government organizations such as United Nations agencies UNDP, OCHA International Committee of Red Cross etc., Foundations like Rockefeller Foundation as well as private donors.

ADPC works closely with governments at national and sub-national levels throughout Asia – such as Ministries responsible for Disaster Risk Management (DRM) or Disaster Response Operations (DRO); Local Government Authorities responsible for DRM or DRO among many others – alongwith Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), Academicians from universities & institutions researching on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) related topics etc., Private Sector partners engaging in DRR initiatives etc., International Organisations involved in DRR works at global level etc., Media professional covering emergency events related news across the region etc.

Some of the notable achievements made by ADPA include strengthening coordination mechanisms between Governments at National Level during Emergency Response Operations period through its project "Strengthening Coordination Systems among National Governments"; Supporting local communities understand risks associated with natural disasters periodically through Early Warning Systems established under "Early Warning Systems Project" across South East Asia countries; Facilitating dialogue between Governments & Civil Society Organizations working on DRM topics under project "Regional Platforms Between Civil Society Organizations & Governments"; Promoting innovative idea based approach towards greater resilience among local communities post disasters through innovation hubs set up under "Youth Innovation Hubs/Incubators project" implemented jointly with youth clubs located in different parts of South East Asian Countries amongst many others.

Yes! Besides regular engagements within South East Asian Countries ,ADCP also has a Strategic Partnership Programmewith Central America Integrated System for Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management (Sistema Integrado de Gestión Integral del Riesgo de Desastres - SIGRID) located across Central American countries focusing on institutional strengthening while promoting good governance approaches towards DRM agenda across both regions besides occasional works done other parts ofworld including Pacific Island Countries.
