The party members primarily represent South Indian states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. ADMK holds the largest number of seats among all provincial parties and is part of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). It was founded in 1972 by MGR (Marudhur Gopalan Ramachandran), who served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu until his death in 1987. The party's current leader is O Panneerselvam (OPS).
