The Centre for Women & Trans People (CWTP) is a resource centre operated through the University of Toronto. Our mission is to support, educate and empower students and members of the community with a particular focus on those that identify as women and/or trans people. We provide a range of different services, including peer-to-peer counselling, harm reduction supplies, menstrual products, vaccinations, safe access to services such as Pap tests and STI testing/treatment referrals, workshops, seminars and campaigns around health education awareness.

What is meant by peer-to-peer counselling?

Peer-to-peer counselling is a non-judgmental service offered by the CWTP which provides individuals with access to open dialogue about any topic related to gender & sexuality. A trained volunteer will provide active listening skills to create an inclusive and supportive space for individuals to talk freely without fear or judgement.

Are there costs associated with CWTP services?

No – all of our services are 100% free and confidential. We strive to make sure that cost never stands in the way of individuals receiving the care they need.

Are all volunteers staff members at CWTP?

Not necessarily – some volunteers are students or other members from various communities who have undergone extensive training prior to their arrival at CWTP. All volunteers undergo screening processes before being allowed into the centre; this includes submitting an application form with references and completing mandatory training courses centered around anti-oppression principles.

What kind of harm reduction supplies can I find at CWTP?

At our drop in space we provide a variety of medical supplies which can be accessed for free during operating hours. This includes but is not limited too needles & syringes, condoms & lubes, tourniquets, alcohol swabs etcetera… To ensure safety in our spaces we operate a needle exchange program where used syringes can be disposed of for new ones during drop in hours.

Who can access vaccines at the CWTP?  

Vaccination services are available for both university students as well as community members; we work hard to ensure that everyone receives necessary immunizations without any cost barriers or stigma attached.

Is there any prerequisites for accessing Pap tests or STI testing/referrals through CWTP?  

No – all individuals seeking these types of care regardless of age, gender identity or sexuality can access these services without any preconditions being required.

The frequency varies depending on demand but generally our events take place regularly throughout each academic semester; this includes workshops on topics such as sexual health awareness & consent education as well as seminars on various aspects regarding women & trans people's rights advocating.
