What does CWRS mean in UNCLASSIFIED

The Center for Watershed Research & Service (CWRS) is a multi-disciplinary research center at Susquehanna University. The center brings together faculty, staff, students and partners to advance knowledge of watershed science and develop solutions to local, regional and global water issues.

CWRS provides expertise on a variety of water topics including hydrology, aquatic ecology, limnology, geomorphology, engineering hydrology, wetlands science and management. Additionally, we offer assistance in conducting research projects or developing innovative strategies for addressing complex problems. Lastly, our team also designs custom education programs and workshops that focus on watershed health and environmental stewardship.

Additionally, you can apply for employment with us or submit your resume if you would like to work as an intern during the summer months. In recent years we have conducted floodplain restoration efforts with local governments; managed education campaigns related to blue-green algae blooms; monitored surface water quality in Chesapeake Bay tributaries; conducted fish surveys throughout Pennsylvania waterways; evaluated wetland conservation easements near urban areas; collected geophysical data from streams impacted by acid mine drainage; developed GIS mapping tools for monitoring landscapes exposed to sea level rise; mapped impervious surfaces across suburban areas using satellite imagery; designed rain gardens geared toward reducing stormwater runoff from residential neighborhoods; conducted field investigations near left-over abandoned coal mines…the list goes on! Yes — Our team regularly works on collaborative projects beyond Pennsylvania’s borders with other organizations seeking assistance with their own unique water issues located all over the world including countries such as China, India, Hungary and Guatemala just to name a few. For instance—this past summer two members from the center spent nearly two months abroad working side-by-side with professors at Sichuan University located in Chengdu China recording field measurements from over 20 rivers throughout Sichuan province…so yes—we most definitely do international work outside PA without hesitation :).
