What does CVMS mean in SOCIETIES

The Connecticut Valley Mycological Society (CVMS) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the study and appreciation of mushrooms and other fungi. We provide educational opportunities such as mushroom identification classes, field trips, forays, lectures, workshops and more.

Membership to CVMS is open to everyone with an interest in mushrooms. To join, simply go to our website at www.ctvalleymycology.org and fill out the membership application form and submit it along with payment. Your membership will start immediately upon receipt of your application.

CVMS offers a wide range of activities that cater to all levels of expertise ranging from beginners courses on mushroom identification to advanced workshops on topics such as photography or microscopy techniques. Additionally, we provide field trips, forays into mushroom hunting areas and even test kitchen events where members can try out their wild finds cooked up by professional chefs!

Membership fees are $30 per year for individuals or $50 per year for families (two adults living in same household). Additionally, students aged 17 or younger may join for free! For more information about registration and payment options please refer to our website.

Absolutely! We welcome donations of any amount which help us continue offering educational opportunities in mushroom science and appreciation throughout Connecticut's Greater Valley region. Yes, most events hosted by CVMS require attendees to be 18 years or older due to safety concerns related to location accessibility and responsibility for minors during outings. However some activities such as group hikes may make exceptions on a case-by-case basis so feel free contact us directly before signing up if you have any concerns!

Yes, we offer several discounts throughout the year including family memberships and student registrations which are both discounted from regular prices. Additionally, special discounts may be offered during certain months so be sure to keep an eye on our site announcements or check out one of our social media pages for updates!

No prior knowledge is necessary to participate in many of our activities such as beginner identification classes or group hikes which are designed specifically for new members who want an easy introduction into mushroom science or appreciation activities. However if you plan on signing up for intermediate/advanced workshops then some level of familiarity with the topic matter is preferred.

Generally speaking most equipment needed during outings will be provided by organizers but feel free bring your own if you prefer – just make sure you notify us beforehand so we can include it in plans accordingly! If you don’t have access to certain gear but still want participate then please don’t hesitate getting in touch – we may be able lend you whatever supplies necessary.
