History

Craig Airport was originally called Imeson Airport after its founder, Rufus Porter Imeson. After his death in 1930, his sons donated the land to the City of Jacksonville as a public-use airport. In 1942 it was named for James Weldon Johnson Craig, who had served as mayor of Jacksonville from 1938 until 1940. The airport has seen incredible growth since then to become one of the busiest airports in northeast Florida today.
