What does CPMU mean in MEDICAL

Central Park Medical Unit (CPMU) is a volunteer-run EMS organization providing life-saving medical care to the residents and visitors of Central Park in New York City. CPMU's fleet of fast response ambulances, staffed by highly trained and experienced members, are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to any urgent medical emergency in the park.

CPMU was founded in 1988 and has been serving the people of Central Park since then. We are one of the oldest volunteer ambulance services in New York City.

All calls are dispatched directly from our headquarters located at the entrance to Central Park. Our dispatch staff communicates with our drivers directly, allowing us to provide rapid response times. In addition, we share information with other EMS providers so that we can all work together to best serve the community.

CPMU responds to both medical and traumatic emergencies – from falls and heart attacks to gunshot wounds and motor vehicle crashes. We also provide advanced medical care including administering intravenous fluids, intubations for airway management, cardiac defibrillation and other life-saving interventions.

No! Our service is completely free as we rely on donations from generous supporters throughout our community. We also accept donations of both money and supplies as we strive to keep our fleet fully equipped and operational at all times.

Absolutely! We recognize that staying current on medical protocols and techniques is essential for providing excellent patient care. Therefore, all members are required to maintain their EMT certification by taking approved continuing education courses each year. We also hold regular training sessions where members can hone their skills under the guidance of seasoned instructors.
