What does CPHI mean in MEDICAL

The Canadian Population Health Initiative (CPHI) is a multi-sectoral partnership to improve population health outcomes and reduce inequities across Canada. It was established in 2000, with the purpose of creating a better understanding of population health issues, developing evidence-based programs, and creating policies to address these issues.

The objectives of the CPHI are to identify leading and emerging public health challenges, develop strategies that support early intervention, build on existing research to create evidence-based public policy initiatives, work collaboratively across sectors and disciplines, and focus on reducing health disparities among Canadians.

The CPHI uses research data from multiple sources to produce evidence-based reports which provide insight into factors that influence populations' well-being such as poverty levels or access to housing. This information can be used by policymakers when making decisions about public policy initiatives that will promote healthy communities.

CPHI has developed numerous partnerships with government organizations at all levels including provincial ministries, regional health authorities and first nations communities. In addition it works collaboratively with non-governmental organizations such as academic institutions; private sector organizations; foundations; and community groups.

Since its establishment in 2000, CPHI has been successful in advancing knowledge related to population health and influencing policy change within governments across Canada. Through its efforts, it has helped reduce disparities in measures like infant mortality rates, increased access to primary care services for certain populations, improved mental health services for youth living in rural areas and implemented an integrated approach to HIV/AIDS surveillance across different geographical regions.
