What ACTRA Does
ACTRA encourages participation in team roping events by providing rules and regulations for members to adhere to. Their website offers information on various competitions which include sanctioning and hosting national events, along with producing age appropriate leagues for youth and junior members. They also provide opportunities for members to earn awards and recognition through various ranking systems based on individual performance. Additionally, they partner with other organizations to expand reach and build a larger participant base that encompasses all levels of team roping talent.
How it Works
Team ropers participate in any one of four divisions at each event including Tie Down Calf Roping (TDCR), Junior Ribbon Roping (JRR), Breakaway Ribbon Roping (BRR), or Team Heading & Heeling (THH). Each event requires two mounted riders—one heading or “roping†the calf, steer or dummy head, while the other rider heels or “cats†it around both horns and hindlegs—before signaling completion either through yelling “time!†or crossing flags held by arena judges at each end of arena floor. Points are accumulated from each race depending upon time taken to rope and run towards an overall divisional stand point total at end season standings; teams may qualify for cash prizes, rewards, advancement levels amongst bigger events such as World Series Finals Championships.
