What does AABP mean in VETERINARY

AABP members are committed to providing the highest level of bovine health care. This includes a comprehensive approach that comprises preventive measures, diagnosis and treatment, client education and humane animal handling/handling practices.

AABP works closely with stakeholders throughout the beef industry to ensure proper protocols and humane handling practices are in place to protect animals from distress or avoidable harm or suffering. The organization also advocates for increased regulatory oversight, research funding, and educational opportunities designed to promote best practices in animal welfare.

As part of their commitment to public health, AABP promotes awareness of food safety guidance and best practices among its members and other stakeholders in the beef industry through educational resources, training programs, and collaborations with organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) and countries' regulatory agencies on zoonotic diseases such as BSE (mad cow disease). In this way, they aim to help reduce the risk of food-borne illnesses due to bacterial or viral contamination.

Veterinarians who have clinical experience with bovines can join as either active or associate members; however, membership is open to other stakeholders who demonstrate an interest in advancing bovine medicine including students, allied industry personnel such as feedlot owners/managers/nutritionists or veterinarians from other species who have significant contact with large animals.
