What does CMA mean in CONSTRUCTION

A Congestion Management Program (CMP) is a program designed to reduce traffic congestion on roads by employing various tools and technologies such as traffic signals, speed restrictions, lane management and other measures to optimize the traffic flow in a given area.

The goal of CMPs is to improve safety on the roadways, increase capacity for vehicles travelling through an area, reduce delays for motorists due to congestion and help conserve energy. By managing the flow of traffic in a particular area more efficiently, it can help decrease the number of accidents on roadways as well as improve air quality in cities or towns.

There are many types of tools used in congestion management programs that can include something like Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), which use advanced technology like cameras and sensors along with communication systems to detect and make decisions about managing the number of vehicles travelling on roadways. Speed limits may also be reduced or modified within congested areas in order to encourage drivers to slow down when driving through these areas.
