What Is CLS?

Confocal laser scanning (CLS) microscopy is a highly specialized form of light microscopy. It is used for analyzing complex biological samples as well as for studying materials on the nanoscale. The technology works by illuminating the sample with laser light and then focusing this light onto the sample from various angles and depths. This allows researchers to create detailed 3D images of biological samples, making it possible to view even single particles or molecules within the sample. The main advantage of CLS technology over traditional optical microscopes is its ability to image fluorescently labeled specimens with greater precision than standard optical microscopes. By using fluorescent labeling, researchers can view specific areas within a specimen without over-illuminating other areas outside the area of interest, resulting in clearer images overall.
