What does CLEO mean in EDUCATIONAL

CLEO is a non-profit organization in Ontario that is committed to educating the public about their legal rights and responsibilities. We provide free or low-cost legal information on a variety of topics including family, health, housing, consumer law and more. Through our educational materials, we help individuals to understand their legal issue better and help them navigate the justice system.

CLEO offers several ways for individuals to access our resources. Our online library makes it easy for anyone to quickly find answers to common legal questions. We also provide printed materials and webinars which can be requested or watched from our website. Social media users can follow us on Facebook and Twitter for regular updates and useful content about law in Ontario.

No, CLEO is not a law firm or court clinic and does not view individual cases. Instead, we offer general advice and information on how individuals may deal with their own legal issues.

All of our services are free or low cost depending on what type of service you need. Printed materials such as booklets are free of charge; however, there may be a fee associated with webinars depending on the topic being covered.

At CLEO, we provide resources about family law, health law, consumer law, housing law and human rights laws in Ontario. We also have tools available to answer questions related to discrimination based on specific grounds such as gender identity or sexual orientation.

In addition to providing educational materials in various formats (e-booklets, e-publications), our ‘Ask Us’ telephone line allows people to speak with an experienced lawyer for up to 30 minutes per call with no charge if they qualify as one of our eligible callers. We also offer workshops with community partners so that people can get access to accurate legal information within their region/townships/communities directly from those who know best – lawyers! Lastly we also host seminars throughout the year that cover important topics relevant to Canadians living in Ontario.

Our printable booklets are designed for all Ontarians regardless of their background - whether they have a disability; are immigrants; identify as Indigenous; socioeconomically disadvantaged; elderly; student etc - all Ontarians will find valuable information when learning about their legal rights through our services.
