History
The motivation behind the creation of CLAY stemmed from the Ecumenical Decade (1982-1992) designated by the World Council of Churches (WCC), with their focus on “receptive ecumenism” – promoting unity through deepening relationships – rather than “institutional ecumenism” which focuses on organizational structures or agreements. While Canadian Lutheran and Anglican dialogue strengthened during this period, it was not until 1995 that separate national organizations were established for both churches: The Evangelical Church in Canada (1995) and The Anglican Church of Canada (1996). It was at this time that both churches identified the need to further strengthen ties between their respective youths, leading to the establishment of CLAY in 1996.
Mission:CLAY’s mission is to foster relationships between Lutheran and Anglican youth across Canada by providing spiritual formation opportunities, leadership training, educational resources, service projects and cultivating communication within the broader church family. By engaging in various activities such as camping programs, discussion forums and interactive events like workshops or retreats, CLAY helps create meaningful connections amongst these two Christian denominations through constructive dialogue. In addition, CLAY also seeks to encourage individual spiritual growth by providing resources such as devotional materials which allow participants to dive deeper into their faith backgrounds in order to better understand their own beliefs under a larger spectrum of Christian traditions.
Projects & Activities:At present, some of the most popular programs run by CLAY include its annual National Gathering which hosts about 200 youth participants from across Canada; Regional Events which are smaller gatherings organized by each province harbouring up to 70 attendees; as well as its Camp Luther program which takes place over five weeks every summer at Emperor Lake near Harriston Ontario. Furthermore, members can participate in online forums where they can share stories or post reflections about current topics related to faith or spirituality on social media outlets like Facebook or Twitter under #claystories hashtag.. Moreover, other initiatives such as mentor-mentee partnerships are also developed in order bring out a sense of community amongst its members so they can learn from one another's experiences while gaining valuable life skills through open conversations about faith activation practices towards social justice or evangelism works needed for North American settings today .
