What does CJL mean in CLIMATE

Climate justice is the recognition and implementation of equitable solutions that protect vulnerable communities from the effects of environmental degradation due to human-induced climate change. This includes promoting and protecting access to resources such as clean water, land, food, energy, health care, housing and other basic needs for all people affected by climate change.

The CJL works through collective action, advocacy, research, and education to advance climate justice. They strive to increase public awareness about the impacts of climate change on marginalized communities; support grassroots mobilization; lobby leaders for stronger policies; advocate for a just transition away from fossil fuels; raise resources for projects related to climate justice; develop tools for activists looking for financial support on their projects; collaborate with community-based organizations in responding to emergency situations caused by extreme weather events; and build a strong movement around fighting inequality related to environmental degradation caused by human activity.

Membership in CJL is open to individuals or groups involved in promoting climate justice initiatives at any level - local, regional or global. This includes activists working with governments or in civil society organizations as well as students or researchers engaging with issues related to environmental protection and sustainability.

CJL promotes several activities including collective campaigns towards policy makers at multiple levels as well as collaboration with diverse research institutions looking into how societies can more equitably respond to climate challenges. It also engages in research around different aspects of social transformation necessary in order for us have a just transition towards lower carbon futures.

By partnering with various organizations around the world CJL has successfully advanced greater public discourse on dramatic changes needed both from governments and from civil society if we are going to address this issue meaningfully. Their actions have helped catalyze several new initiatives within national governments such as India's commitments towards renewable energy goals but also in increasing demands for robust public participation when it comes social transformation necessary in order to reduce emissions globally.
