What does CITA mean in TECHNOLOGY

The Center for Information Technology and Architecture (CITA) is a research center at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. It focuses on developing innovative digital technologies and applications related to architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, and real estate management. CITA also strives to create a platform for collaboration between industry partners, universities, policymakers, and other stakeholders in the area of built environment.

CITA’s research focus lies in four main areas: Digital Design & Construction; Digital Fabrication & Robotics; Informatics & Data Science; and Artificial Intelligence for Building Environments. Within these areas, CITA looks into topics such as 3D modeling and printing, virtual and augmented reality, automation processes and robotics systems for construction sites, WiFi connectivity mapping of cities, data-driven simulations of architectural designs and climates, as well as energy efficient systems powered by artificial intelligence.

Yes. Currently, there are several projects running at the center. Some examples include projects studying interactive robotic fabrication techniques using modularized masonry elements and machines that allow customization from a digital file repository; a project focused on developing automated methods for building performance simulation to optimize building design with respect to energy use; and an effort to design an architecturally-inspired smart city infrastructure optimized for flexibility through adaptive machine learning algorithms.

You can get involved with CITA's activities through several different avenues. We welcome students interested in exploring our research topics who can contribute to current or future projects. Additionally, we welcome external partners from academia or industry who want to collaborate with us on potential joint ventures or exchange knowledge or expertise. Yes. While most courses offered at CITA are meant primarily for Delft University students looking to specialize in one of our focus areas (see above), non-Delft students may also apply via the appropriate exchange programs if they are accepted by their own university's international office. Furthermore, some short courses may be available throughout the year that are open to broader audiences.

Yes! Alumni/faculty members from other universities can take part by signing up for short courses organized by us throughout the year or by collaborating on external joint ventures that combine interdisciplinary expertise from both parties.

Our researchers have access to multiple specialized laboratories equipped with machinery used for additive manufacturing (3D printing), woodworking & metalworking tools such as milling machines & lathes, laser cutters & engravers; advanced visualization services such as VR headsets; software tools like Rhino3D & Grasshopper as well as various custom developed platforms tailored to each project’s needs; furthermore they may access other physical computing devices such as Arduino boards..
