What does ACR mean in GENERAL

The Annual Confidential Report (ACR) is a written evaluation of the performance of a civil servant or other official employed by India's Central or State governments. Essentially, it serves as an annual review that captures information on performance, attitude, aptitude, reputation, conduct and character of the individual employee.

The ACRs are usually reviewed by a senior ranking officer who is not directly involved in working with the subject employee. Depending upon the rank of the official being reviewed, it may be approved or evaluated at different levels such as departmental heads/divisional head/HODs/senior officers/secretary to Government etc.

ACRs must be submitted every year on April 1st in order to renew an official's governmental position and appointment status. If this does not happen then renewal cannot be granted for any additional period until the ACR has been completed satisfactorily and accepted by higher echelons such as Secretary to Government or Head of Department etc.
