What does CIMMYT mean in BOTANY

CIMMYT is the acronym for the Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo, which translates to the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre. It is a global not-for-profit research organization dedicated to reducing global poverty and hunger through sustainable agricultural development. The organization works with smallholder farmers in low and middle-income countries to help improve their livelihoods through the production of maize, wheat, and other crops.

CIMMYT focuses on several fields of research including breeding new crop varieties with improved yields and disease resistance, understanding climate change adaptation strategies, improving agronomic practices that increase productivity, developing innovative seed technologies, managing water resources for irrigation purposes, and exploring new markets for higher value products.
