What does CHPR mean in HEALTHCARE

The Center for Healthcare Policy and Research (CHPR) aims to improve health outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and enhance the quality of healthcare by advancing evidence-informed policy and practice. Our research focuses on key issues in healthcare delivery, access to care, management of chronic illnesses, and health disparities. Our goal is to inform decisions made at all levels of the healthcare system to ensure that all patients receive high-quality care.

CHPR conducts applied public health research under three primary themes: quality measurement, effectiveness and efficiency of healthcare services, and patient experience. We study a variety of topics including medical home models, shared decision making, health information technologies, outcomes measurement and accountability systems with an emphasis on vulnerable populations such as immigrants, low-income communities, ethnic/racial minorities and older adults.

The findings from our projects are used locally in Southern California and nationally to inform policies that aim to improve the quality of care for patients. Our findings have also been featured in national reports such as those from the Institute of Medicine (IOM), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), National Quality Forum (NQF), Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ), Health Care Cost Institute (HCCI) and RAND Corporation among others.

CHPR works closely with stakeholders around Southern California including providers, payers, associations/foundations, community based organizations as well as state and federal agencies such as California Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention on its various initiatives..
