What does CHC mean in COUNCIL

Community Health Councils advocate on behalf of local communities to ensure they receive equitable access to health care resources and services. This includes linking communities to clinical care, providing education on relevant topics, creating partnerships between communities and providers, working with legislators to increase access and funding for health care, advocating for prevention initiatives such as smoke-free legislation, and focusing research activities on issues that impact public health.

There are currently around 250 active CHCs throughout the United States that serve an estimated 38 million people. These CHCs span from small rural districts serving limited populations to larger urban settings where they serve many diverse populations at once.
