What does CFNS mean in FOUNDATIONS

The Community Foundation of Nova Scotia works with donors to create long-term financial legacies that benefit their communities through grants and other funding sources. The foundation also provides programs and services that support local charities and organizations working towards positive social change.

You can donate directly to CFNS by cheque, credit card or electronic transfer. Alternatively, you can also set up a donor advised fund with the foundation which will allow you to make donations over time and use the funds when it suits your needs.

CFNS grants are open to registered charities in Nova Scotia whose mission meets the areas of focus approved by the foundation's board of directors. These areas include health and wellness, arts & culture, education, environment, poverty reduction, youth development, seniors and accessibility.

Projects may be eligible if they align with one or more of our areas of focus as well as other criteria outlined on our website. Eligible projects must demonstrate not only measurable outcomes but also a commitment from applicants to engage stakeholders in order to maximize impact in their communities.

Grant amounts vary depending on the project size and scope, but typically range from ,500 - ,000 per grant; however higher grant amounts may be considered depending on what is being proposed and its potential community impact. All applications are reviewed by staff and if successful award recommendations are made to our Board for approval.
