What does CFID mean in FOUNDATIONS

The Canadian Foundation for Infectious Diseases (CFID) is a charitable organization dedicated to promoting public awareness and education about infectious diseases, as well as programs to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with these illnesses. CFID also advocates for enhanced capacity of health care professionals in managing infectious diseases, research advancements in the field of infectious diseases, and health system reform that encourages improved access and better outcomes for individuals suffering from infectious diseases.

CFID funds research projects and initiatives related to diagnostics, treatments, and preventive measures related to infectious diseases in Canada. We also support knowledge translation activities such as conferences, workshops, seminars and forums as well as providing educational materials on topics relevant to the prevention and management of infectious diseases. Additionally we host regular events that bring together experts from various disciplines such as clinicians, researchers, epidemiologists, public health officials, policy makers and members of industry to discuss current challenges facing the field. Finally we are committed to creating an informed public by advancing public dialogue on topics related to infectious disease mitigation.

Yes! Through our grant program we provide financial support towards research initiatives that advance the understanding or control of infectious disease burden in Canada. Our priority areas are HIV/AIDS, Influenza & Vaccines; Antimicrobial Resistance; Emerging & Re-emerging Infectious Agents; Neglected Tropical Diseases; Outbreak Biology & Vector borne Diseases; Zoonotic Diseases & Foodborne Illnesses; Bacterial Pathogens & Disease Outbreaks.

Donations are always welcome which will help us continue our work in advancing understanding about infectious disease prevention and management in Canada. By partnering with us your organization will benefit by gaining exposure towards leading experts working within the field of infectious disease management, introductory networking opportunities among other stakeholders within this field such as academics and policy makers as well as potential media articles highlighting any joint projects or collaborations between both organizations. Additionally we offer financial support towards project initiatives aiming at improving understanding or control of certain diseases outlined in our grant program guidelines which could be advantageous towards any proposed collaborative initiative between organizations.

Yes! Organizations may submit multiple applications but should take into consideration that only one application will be selected per fiscal year period (April 1st - March 31st). In addition it is important to note that all applications must be reviewed before a decision on selection is made so please ensure you allow sufficient time before submission deadline passes.

A committee appointed by the Board oversees all grant requests received at CFID through a review process regardless of country origin or sector background (academic vs commercial). It is important to note however that not all applicants may have their receive funded due to various reasons such as low impact project proposals or lack of available resources amongst others.

All applicants must meet certain criteria outlined on our website including having a valid charitable registration number if submitting under a registered charity foundation name otherwise individual applicants should include address details proofing person/organization is legally situated within Canada either through driver's license or passport provided identification documents.
