What does CEWG mean in WORKING GROUPS

The Cornell Ecoagriculture Working Group (CEWG) is a collaboration between Cornell University, the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems Program, and the International Institute for Sustainable Development. It is dedicated to developing innovative solutions for sustainable land use and agricultural production in order to address global food insecurity and poverty.

CEWG's goal is to develop strategies that integrate various elements of eco-agricultural systems such as landscape productivity, biodiversity conservation, rural livelihoods, water management, soil quality, climate change adaptation, carbon sequestration and social justice.

CEWG works with academic partners such as universities, research institutions and civil society organizations as well as government agencies at local, regional and national levels to create effective partnerships for sustainable land management practices. It also connects stakeholders at different scales—from local communities to national governments—to ensure successful outcomes from collaborative initiatives.

CEWG works with researchers to identify new technologies that can help improve agricultural production while preserving the environment. Through its research findings, it supports policy changes that will lead to increased investments in agriculture research across the world along with incentives that promote sustainable land use practices such as agroforestry initiatives or community-based conservation areas.

By promoting international dialogue on innovative ecoagricultural solutions such as agroforestry models or silvo-pastoral systems among others, CEWG contributes towards improved environmental performance in terms of reduced greenhouse gas emissions from industrial farming systems while at the same time promotes ecological resilience by enabling diverse crop rotations or other measures toward increasing biodiversity conservation efforts on farms all around the world.
