What does CESR mean in ENVIRONMENTAL

The Center for Environmental Systems Research (CESR) is a research center at the University of Kassel, Germany dedicated to interdisciplinary environmental research. Our mission is to conduct innovative research on complex systems of environmental management and provide solutions that enable sustainable human-environment interactions.

CESR focuses on analyzing how human activities interact with natural resources, both on a local and global scale. We look at the ways in which human behavior influences environment quality and sustainability, and how these implications can be addressed through improved management strategies. Our areas of research include water resources management, land use change, air pollution control, carbon cycle dynamics, eco-hydrology, e-governance, and more.

We offer a range of courses designed to teach students about both the technical aspects of environmental systems research as well as broader policy issues associated with managing our environment sustainably. Courses may be taken individually or as part of certificate programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Yes! We collaborate with several universities projects across Europe including Imperial College London's Environmental Research Group (ERG), the European Institute for Regional Development (ERDI) in Brussels, and King's College London's Centre for Technology Management (CTM). Additionally, we regularly participate in events such as conferences hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) Germany among other international organizations dedicated to tackling global environmental challenges.

Yes! The members of our staff are regular contributors to academic journals such as Environmental Science & Policy Journal (ESPJ), Applied Geography Journal (AGJ), Environmental Impact Assessment Review Journal (EIARJ), International Journal Of Life Cycle Assessments(IJLCA) among others; they also publish books such as “Environmental Systems Analysis” published by Springer Publishers in 2018.
