What does CESP mean in ENERGY

The Center for Energy Science and Policy (CESP) is an interdisciplinary research center at Arizona State University focused on advancing sustainable energy solutions through research, education and outreach. We strive to help meet the global energy challenge by developing innovative solutions that reduce environmental impacts from energy production, address climate change and promote secure energy supply.

CESP focuses on conducting research across disciplines including engineering, science, policy, business and economics to develop integrated approaches to tackling the challenges faced by global energy systems. Our aim is to identify technologies, policies and business innovations that can be implemented now to create a more sustainable future.

Through our interdisciplinary approach, we inform public policy deliberations by providing independent scientific advice and evidence-based analysis that takes into consideration both technical and stakeholder considerations. We believe effective public policies rely on accurate data, sound reasoning and proper technical assessment which we provide to public officials and stakeholders engaged in making natural resource management decisions.

We offer a range of education programs devoted to energy literacy for students of all ages as well as continuing education for professionals. Our flagship program is the Energy Education Program (EEP), which provides hands-on learning experiences with renewable energy resources through field trips, lectures, projects and interactive activities. Additionally, we also offer advanced degree programs such as a Master's in Sustainable Energy Systems or a Certificate in Sustainability Leadership.

Yes! One way we work together with other organizations is through project collaborations where we can leverage their expertise to effectively address local sustainability issues while promoting innovative solutions that do not sacrifice people's quality of life or environment in the process. Another way we collaborate is through our professional training courses where we share our knowledge with professionals around the world on topics related to energy policy formulation and implementation, energy management systems etc., so that they can use this information in their own contexts.
