What does CDFC mean in UNCLASSIFIED

The Corps Civil Defense Flying Corps (CDFC) is a branch of the United States Army Reserve that provides aviation support for civil defense operations. CDFC personnel provide aerial reconnaissance, search and rescue, air traffic management, tactical airlift, air ambulance, and a variety of other services for federal, state and local civilian authorities.

Membership in the Corps Civil Defense Flight Corps is open to individuals who are U.S. citizens or aliens lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the U.S., at least 17 years of age but less than 80 years of age and who meet all other qualifications approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The Corps Civil Defense Flight Corps operates a variety of aircraft ranging from small single-engine trainers to larger multi-engine military transports. Aircraft are selected based on mission requirements in order to fulfill CDFC’s core mission areas of aerial reconnaissance/surveillance; search and rescue; air medical transport; tactical airlift; nuclear, biological and chemical response operations; border surveillance; disaster relief coordination; emergency firefighting suppression; humanitarian aid missions; law enforcement operations; ice patrol missions; oil spill monitoring and control activities.

Members must complete a rigorous training program designed to equip them with an understanding of the principles and operation of all aircraft assigned to their unit, as well as maintenance procedures specific to each model. Pilot proficiency qualification standards must be met prior to assignment as Pilot-in-Command (PIC). In addition, members receive instruction that prepares them to understand Airfield Operations Security Procedures, susceptibility security measures against electronic countermeasures, navigation techniques relevant to operational requirements and effective Crew Resource Management concepts.

Officer candidates attend 10 weeks of Officer Candidate School (OCS) which focuses on developing leadership skills while providing detailed instruction in Navy Regulations (NR), Leadership Theory & Principles, Military Law & Justice Systems Studies among other topics relevant to both flight deck operations as well as staff positions within the command structure.

The Corps Civil Defense Flight Corps offers flight qualified officers and enlisted personnel career paths including aviation safety officer positions at division level commands such as Air Mobility Command (AMC), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or Transportation Safety Administration (TSA); Inspector General duties at installation or major command level commands such as U.S Air Forces Europe (USAFE); staff assignments in various staff roles such as logistics specialists or communications experts at Expeditionary Absentee Voting Assistance Centers deployed overseas with U.S Armed Forces Central Command’s Area Support Groups deployed worldwide; executive officer assignments with higher headquarters in Pentagon or special duty assignments with Joint Chiefs Staff elements located on various installations around the world.

Individuals interested in joining the Corp Civil Defense Flight Corps must possess a current valid driver's license issued by one's state agency or an equivalent foreign authority exhibiting proof that one meets state motor vehicle driving requirements applicable event if stationed outside his/her home state due to military service obligations absence from present home station due TDY., TAD., PCS., DCMA plenty exempt orders excluded).
