A Certified Composites Technician (CCT) is a professional who has been trained and tested to demonstrate knowledge of composite fabrication, repair, and inspection processes. They are qualified to perform technical tasks with fiber-reinforced plastic materials in accordance with industry standards.

To become a CCT, individuals must be knowledgeable in areas such as raw material selection, fabricating processes like lay-up and machining, bonding techniques, surface preparation, testing methods and quality control. Additionally, candidates should also possess knowledge of structural composites theory and processes such as filament winding, autoclave molding and resin transfer molding.

There are several ways to qualify for the CCT certification. Individuals must complete extensive coursework or a formal apprenticeship program under the supervision of a CCT certified professional. Once you have completed your training or apprenticeship program you can apply for certification through the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET).

As a CCT certified professional you can work in many different industries such as aerospace, automotive, medical device manufacturing, marine construction and even sporting goods manufacturing. You will be responsible for performing tasks such as raw material selection, design analysis and modeling of composite parts as well as fabricating components from composites materials.

The amount of time it takes to become an CCT certified professional varies depending on the individual’s prior experience and educational background. Generally speaking most individuals can obtain their certification within 4-6 months if they have some prior experience or 12 – 24 months if they need to complete additional coursework or apprenticeship programs.

Yes, all applicants for the CCT certification must pass the NICET Level III exam which evaluates your knowledge of composite theory and application as well as safety procedures necessary when working with composite materials. This exam includes multiple choice questions covering topics such as raw material types, inspection techniques and design principles for composite structures.

After passing the NICET Level III exam you will be granted provisional status until all necessary documents are submitted including evidence demonstrating required experience or education level has been met according to NICET standards.

All CCT certifications must be renewed every 3 years by submitting proof of completion of at least 10 hours continuing education or at least one year total employment working with composites during the three years preceding renewal date.
