What Is CCGC?
The California Color Guard Circuit (CCGC) was founded in 2007 as a regional non-profit corporation that specializes in producing quality color guard competitions throughout the state of California. They collaborate with independent directors who are members of WGASC (Western Guard Association of Southern California) to bring a unique circuit that allows individuals to compete at any level they desire. The CCGC is divided into three circuits -- open class, elite class, and middle school -- where each circuit has specific guidelines for admission. Teams can progress from one classification level to another as they reach certain qualifications set out by the CCGC, allowing them to compete against more advanced competitors in higher-level events such as championships and finals.
How Does It Work?
Each competition is comprised of five different groups
Design Judges, Equipment Inspectors/Technicians, Performance Judges, Administrative Affairs Staff, and Volunteers. Design Judges are responsible for evaluating performance criteria such as visual presentation and musical interpretation; Equipment Inspectors/Technicians measure performing accuracy; Performance Judges rate execution based on technical achievement; Administrative Affairs Staff coordinate paperwork; Lastly volunteers assist during events ranging from assisting schedulers or setting up/tearing down equipment needed for performances. At the end of each competition the teams’ scores are tabulated by each judge panel which determines a placement score before awards are presented at the end of an event event.
Who Can Compete?
All students 6th grade through 12th grade enrolled in either public or private schools located within California may compete under the CCGC guidelines subject to rules set out by their own geographic region based upon distance from tournaments/competitions hosted by other organizations affiliated with WGASC or NCBA (Northern CA Band Association). Any group whose members exceed 10% outside of these boundaries will not be eligible to participate within the CCGC unless prior approval is received from both organizations prior to registration which requires additional paperwork due 2 weeks prior to an event date if approved by both parties involved.
