The formation of the African American Association of Georgia (AAAG) can be traced back to 1985 when a group of concerned citizens came together with a common vision - “to preserve our heritage, promote unity, empower our people, strengthen our families and build strong communities”. Led by Dr. Keith E. Lee, they set out to create an organization that would provide direct services to underserved individuals and families; advocate for justice on behalf of the African-American community; and work collaboratively with other organizations to create lasting social change. Over the past three decades, AAAG has achieved much success in fulfilling its mission. It has provided youth mentoring programs, hosted forums on financial literacy and job readiness training workshops, initiated voter registration campaigns leading up to local elections, held annual health fairs for seniors, proudly presented scholarships to outstanding graduating high school seniors each year – just to name a few of its initiatives during this time period.
