What does APC mean in ACADEMIC & SCIENCE

The Academic Policies Committee (APC) is a standing committee of faculty, students, and staff concerned with academic polices at our institution. The APC works to review existing polices and recommend new policies that best support a quality educational experience for all.

The APC consists of faculty, staff and student members from various departments across campus. Faculty representatives are elected by their respective departments, while staff and student members are annually appointed by the President's Office. Each member brings unique points of view to the committee and helps ensure we are considering all stakeholders when making decisions about policy changes or recommendations.

The APC makes recommendations to campus administrators regarding any changes or adjustments that need to be made to existing academic policies and procedures. Any changes or adjustments must be authorized by campus administrators before they can be implemented.

The APC meets multiple times throughout each semester in order to discuss current policies and review requests for policy change or adjustment. These meetings typically occur during business hours so students, faculty and staff can attend if they wish.

Yes! As mentioned earlier, two student representatives are appointed by the President's Office annually, but there are other ways for students to get involved with the APC as well! Students can submit policy change requests via e-mail or through an online form which will then be discussed at committee meetings as needed. Additionally, students may attend these meetings if desired in order to provide their input directly to the committee members.

The topics discussed at APC meetings vary case-by-case depending on what needs to be discussed or decided upon at any given time. In general, though, common topics include major/degree requirements, grading policies, course load regulations, internship/externship rules and regulations, degree audit issues etc...

It depends on the complexity of each individual request/suggestion being discussed; however, an approximate timeline looks something like this - 1) Review period (1-2 weeks); 2) Policy change decision (2-3 weeks); 3) Implementation period (3-4 weeks). This timeline is subject to change based on circumstance.

Yes! If you would like to appeal a policy decision made by the APC you must submit a written request for review within one week confirmation of said decision being sent out officially by committee chairs. All appeals will be reviewed carefully with an aim towards finding a fair resolution acceptable among all parties involved.

Absolutely! We value input from our stakeholders above all else when it comes deciding how we should go about altering our own existing academic policies & procedures. Whenever possible we solicit feedback formally using surveys & interviews; however informal discussions & comments may also ne taken into consideration when appropriate.
