What does CBWG mean in WORKING GROUPS

The Capacity Building Working Group (CBWG) is a peer-driven community of global practitioners dedicated to learning from each other how to best build the capacity of the people and organizations they serve. The CBWG engages in activities that promote dialogue, knowledge sharing, resource exchange, analysis, advocacy and action on issues related to capacity building.

The Capacity Building Working Group was established in September 2005 by a group of international stakeholders interested in building a more vibrant civil society through better capacity building around the world.

The core objectives of the CBWG include professionalizing capacity building practice globally; advocating for greater accountability and transparency in capacity building approaches; providing technical assistance to members; developing integrated tools that integrate evidence-based practice into everyday practices; and promoting collaboration across sectors and geographies.

Participants in the CBWG are typically representatives from individuals or organisations working on capacity building issues in various countries across all regions of the world. They include researchers, policy makers, educators, trainers, facilitators, activists, funders and practitioners who work with communities at grassroots levels primarily or exclusively devoted to helping build capacities that empower communities.

Any individual with an interest or experience with capacity building can become a member of the CBWG by applying directly through our website. In addition to this online application form there is also an option for groups to submit joint membership applications together or for individuals to nominate someone else for membership. Once you have submitted your application it will be reviewed by one of our board members before being accepted.

Members typically meet twice a year at either virtual or physical meetings depending on geographical location. These meetings are focused on exchanging information about capacity building initiatives amongst members as well as discussing strategies for achieving collective goals/outcomes related to capacity building efforts globally.

There are no specific locations set for every meeting as this depends on geography and availability of members. However virtual meetings take place via online collaboration tools such as Zoom while physical meetings usually occur at a convenient venue with adequate resources such as accommodation and transport available within reasonable distance.
