What does CBC mean in CONSERVATION

The Center for Biodiversity and Conservation (CBC) is an organization dedicated to advancing science-based approaches to conserving species, ecosystems and genetic diversity around the world. Through research, training, communication and partnerships with governments, indigenous peoples, academic institutions and other organizations, CBC works to promote understanding of the value of biodiversity and its conservation.

CBC conducts scientific research on a variety of topics related to biodiversity conservation. This includes research on species extinction risk, habitat fragmentation, threats from climate change, disease dynamics in humans and wildlife, invasive species management, policy analyses related to conservation efforts, sustainable harvesting practices, ecology of rare plants and animals and more.

CBC is active in many countries around the world although much of our core work takes place in Latin America where we have long-standing partnerships with various governments and universities as well as with non-governmental organizations working in nature conservation across the region.

Yes we do! We are an international organization with offices in North America and Latin America where we look for talented interns who share our passion for saving biodiversity through science-based conservation actions. We also regularly partner with local NGOs across Latin America on volunteer activities such as tree planting events or community outreach activities.

At CBC we recognize that the protection of nature must go hand in hand with protecting people’s rights especially those of indigenous populations who often depend heavily upon nature for sustenance yet are denied access due to exploitative practices by corporations or governments. For this reason our policies center around equitable environmental stewardship which seeks both protect nature while ensuring that all people – regardless of nationality or social affiliation– have equitable access to natural resources.

Yes! One way that we strive towards promoting equitable stewardship of nature is through advocacy campaigns which seek to ensure proper regulation over industry practices which might be detrimental to local communities or ecosystems such as mining operations found near protected areas or unsustainable fishing practices.

Yes! Our Advocacy Team runs campaigns throughout Latin America focusing mainly but not exclusively around issues like extractive industry regulation development projects’ impacts on ecology etc… These campaigns involve disseminating knowledge within affected communities spreading awareness among stakeholders journalists bloggers etc… so there are often multiple ways that volunteers can offer their support depending on their interests abilities languages etc…
