What does CHST mean in CERTIFICATIONS & DIPLOMAS

A Certified Health Safety Technician (CHST) is a professional trained to identify, recognize, evaluate, and manage the health and safety risks of the work environment in order to ensure the health and safety of all workers.

CHSTs are certified by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).

CHSTs are responsible for analyzing the dangers present in an organization's worksite or workplace. They use various techniques including risk assessment analyses to judge potential hazards that could be potentially dangerous or hazardous for employees or members working within that organization.

To become a CHST you must have at least two years of experience in construction-related fields as well as demonstrated knowledge in areas related to safety such as industrial hygiene, environmental science, engineering principles, administrative practices, risk assessment techniques, chemical hazard awareness and more. In addition, you will need to pass an exam administered by BCSP.
